Equalizer
Adjust ten frequency bands and master gain to suit your headphones, speakers, and music. Open MySpace → Audio FX → Equalizer. The equalizer and Dhvanic are mutually exclusive to avoid over-processing.
Overview
SonicSyncSail's Equalizer is a software-based 10-band parametric style controller intended to give users precise tonal control over playback. The equalizer is accessible from the Audio FX area and is mutually exclusive with the Dhvanic sound engine to avoid over-processing.
Key points: master gain, 10 adjustable bands, two graph interpolation modes, horizontally scrollable preset chips, and a seamless preset-to-custom workflow.
Access
Navigate: MySpace - Audio FX - Equalizer. A toggle at the top of the Equalizer screen enables or disables the effect. When enabled, all equalizer controls become visible. When disabled, the equalizer is bypassed and controls are hidden or dimmed.
Controls
Master Gain
The Master Gain slider controls the combined output gain produced by the individual band adjustments. Range: 10% to 200%. Default: 100%. Use Master Gain to prevent clipping or distortion after aggressive band boosts. If you observe distortion when changing band gains, reduce Master Gain until the signal is clean.
Band Controls
Ten band sliders are provided with numeric readouts. Each band is adjustable from -12.0 dB to +12.0 dB, with 0.0 dB as flat. Band frequency centers are fixed to the values listed in the next section.
Graph Mode Toggle
Two visualization modes are available for the EQ curve: linear and cubic. The toggle switches the interpolation algorithm used to render the connecting curve between band nodes. This affects the visual presentation only and does not change the numerical band values.
EQ Bands
The equalizer exposes 10 frequency bands with meaningful band labels so users can intuitively know what each band affects:
- 31 Hz - Sub Bass - sense of weight and sub rumble
- 62 Hz - Deep Bass - body of kick and low synth
- 125 Hz - Mid Bass - fullness of bass and low guitar
- 250 Hz - Low Mid - warmth and body of many instruments
- 500 Hz - Vocals - presence and body of voice
- 1 kHz - High Mid - articulation and clarity
- 2 kHz - Presence - speech intelligibility and attack
- 4 kHz - Treble - definition and small detail
- 8 kHz - Sparkle - cymbals, transient sheen
- 16 kHz - Air - top-end air and shimmer
Each band is presented as a vertical slider with a numeric dB readout, and bands are visually connected by the selected interpolation curve to form an overall EQ line. Labels are shown under each band to help non-expert users make meaningful adjustments.
Graph Modes
Two rendering modes are available for the connecting curve:
- Linear - straight line connections between band nodes; useful for a precise mechanical view.
- Cubic - smooth cubic interpolation for a more natural, flowing curve; better for visualizing musical shaping.
Selecting either mode updates only the visual representation, not the underlying dB values for each band.
Presets
SonicSyncSail includes mindful factory presets that act as starting points. Presets appear as vertically scrollable chips. Tap a chip to apply the preset instantly; when you modify any band after applying a preset, the system enters a transient custom state derived from that preset.
Flat
Neutral, no tonal shaping.
Bass boost
Adds low-end weight and presence.
Vocal focus
Shifts midrange clarity to emphasize vocals.
Dance
Punchy lows and bright highs for electronic dance content.
Heavy metal
Tight low mids and pronounced highs for aggressive guitars.
Jazz
Balanced warmth and mid presence for natural instrument tone.
Rock
Punchy bass and forward mids for guitars and vocals.
Groove
Slight warmth and tight low-mid emphasis.
Bass heavy
Stronger low-frequency boost than Bass boost preset.
Loudness
Boosted lows and highs for perceived loudness at low volumes.
Treble boost
Increases high frequency detail and air.
Classical
Neutral, slightly warm to preserve orchestral balance.
Folk
Natural mid presence and controlled highs.
Hip hop
Deep low-end focus with controlled mids.
Pop
Balanced curve with slightly enhanced presence.
Electronic
Tight bass and pronounced highs for electronic textures.
Latin
Warm lows and lively midrange for percussion clarity.
Bright
Enhanced high-frequency presence and sparkle.
Custom
A transient user-modified state derived from the last applied preset.
Preset to Custom Workflow
Presets are applied instantly. When a user applies a preset and then changes any band, the system creates a transient custom state using the preset as the base. This allows fluid experimentation without locking a preset file. Custom states are not persistently saved across sessions by design. This simplifies the experience and avoids clutter from many slightly altered presets.
Note: custom state persists only for the current session. If the user needs persistent custom presets later, the app can be extended to add explicit "save preset" functionality, saving of user presets is a planned enhancement may be introduced in future versions.
Interaction and UI Notes
- Band sliders respond in real time; numeric decibel values update continuously during drag.
- Master Gain is independent and applied after band sums; use this to control headroom and avoid clipping.
- Graph mode toggle changes only the visual interpolation between band nodes.
- The band labels provide practical guidance for users without technical EQ knowledge.
- When equalizer is disabled, band states are preserved but not active; enabling the effect re-applies the last state.
Compatibility with Dhvanic
Important: the Equalizer and Dhvanic are mutually exclusive. When Dhvanic is enabled, the Equalizer is automatically disabled and vice versa. This prevents cumulative processing and preserves sonic intent.
Limitations
- Custom states are session-scoped and do not persist across app restarts unless explicit "save preset" is implemented later.
- Equalizer is software-based; extreme boosts may still be limited by device DSP or output hardware.
- Master Gain is a global safety control but cannot guarantee elimination of distortion in all scenarios; reducing band boosts is recommended if distortion persists.
- Graph mode interpolation is visual only and does not change band math; users should rely on numeric band values for precise tuning.
- Equalizer and Dhvanic cannot be run together; advanced users needing both may see missing combined behaviors until a future integrated solution is provided.
FAQ
Can I save my custom curve?
Not in the current release. Custom changes create a transient custom state derived from the last preset. Persistent saving of user presets is a planned enhancement.
Why is the Equalizer disabled when Dhvanic is enabled?
Dhvanic is a full-fledged sound engine that applies instrument-aware processing. Running both would cause layered processing and unpredictable results. The app prevents this by disabling the Equalizer automatically if Dhvanic is activated.
